Former Whitesboro head coach and current Gainesville offensive line coach Eddie Gill was hired as the new head football coach and athletic director at Callisburg Friday.
Gill replaces Gary Jack, who stepped down as head coach and asked to be reassigned by Callisburg ISD earlier in January.
Gill was the Whitesboro head coach from 2006 to 2018, leading the Bearcats to eight-consecutive playoff berths after the school had not made the playoffs in their previous 100 years.
His contract was not renewed in 2019 by a 4-3 vote of the Whitesboro ISD Board of Trustees. He was hired by Gainesville athletic director James Polk and served as the Leopards' offensive line coach this past season.
He will take over a Callisburg football program that went 3-27 in the past three seasons, but the overall athletic program has seen success including a State championship in volleyball and lots of success in boys and girls golf.
