GHS Soccer gets 3rd Place at home tourney


The Gainesville Leopards boys soccer team started the 2020 season this week by hosting the annual Gainesville Invitational.

Gainesville went 2-1-1 over the weekend to finish in third place.

Eight teams competed at Leopard Stadium over three days. Teams participating include Gainesville, Burkburnett, Melissa, Bridgeport, Borger, Dallas Hillcrest, ILT Keller and Williams Prep.

In their first game on Thursday, the Leopards tied Burkburnett 2-2. Gabe Mevarez had both Gainesville goals.

In their second game on Thursday, the Leopards fell to a strong Williams Prep team 2-0. The Leopards dominated the first half, but could not put the ball away to show anything for it.

In their final pool game Friday, Gainesville downed Borger 3-0. The Leopards took the lead early and dominated throughout the match. Israel Carrasco had 2 goals and Gabriel Nevarez added 1. Jose Monsivais had all 3 assists. Micah Martinez, Daniel Gomez, Pedro Meza and helped defensively Abraham Saenz with the shutout.

In the third-place match on Saturday, Gainesville shut out Bridgeport 3-0.

The Leopards were able to get two early goals and never looked back. Gabriel Nevarez, Jaime Guerrero and Israel Carrasco each scored a goal. The Leopards were able to keep Bridgeport out of goal with good defense from Abraham Saenz, Daniel Gomez, Pedro Meza, and Micah Martinez in goal.
