Lady Leopard soccer wins Big Red Classic


The Gainesville Lady Leopards withstood the cold, rain and win and came away with a 4-0 record and the championship at the Big Red Classic at Leopard Stadium.

Gainesville defeated Castleberry 2-1 in the championship game Saturday.

The Lady Leopards went down early in the first half from a deflection. They were able to respond playing against the wind with a goal from Evelyn Peralta on a breakaway from a pass from Angelina Arenas. Gainesville then went up in the second half with a run down line and into the box by Evelyn Peralta who then passed to Bela Perez on top of the box to put the ball into the back of the net.

They got to the championship by beat Dallas Hillcrest 2-0 on Friday.

The Lady Leopards were able to get on score early with a cross from Maria Martinez to Alissa Galaviz on the back post. Michelle Fernandez was able to put the game away in the second half with another 25-yard rocket to the back post. Daniela Marin and the defense with their third shutout in a row.

Gainesville downed Fort Worth Dunbar 6-0 and Wichita Falls Hirschi 2-0 in their other games.

In the game against Dunbar, Olivia Vazquez and Bela Perez had two goals. Angelina Arenas and Ninel Hernandez each recorded one goal. The defense of Jordan Medlock, Andrea Barcenas, Keila Gonzalez, and Daniela Marin helped lead to the shutout.

Against Hirschi, Evelyn Peralta and Cici Fernández had the goals. Daniela Marin recorded the shutout in goal.
